In my second speech, I think I did a lot better than my first speech but still noticed a lot more improvement was needed. I was more comfortable giving my second speech more than my first because it was something I truly was interested in. my topic was on fraternity and my whole college life has revolved around it as well, therefore I was comfortable. When giving this speech, I noticed a lot of things I did wrong, although I thought it was better than the first. One thing I noticed was the information given to the audience. Don’t get me wrong, all the information I presented was true and hopefully informational but I know I could have said a lot more things to make my presentation better.
During my speech, I felt more confident than before. I knew what I was talking about and this wouldn’t be the first time giving a speech. I did notice that I was rushing my speech a bit too fast but I believe the transition was very smooth. But if I had to do this all over again, I definitely would have practiced in front of an audience first. This time I really did practice this speech a lot but never put it into action with an audience. Made it difficult for me to adjust to the different settings.
For my next speech, I know there is a lot of things I still need to improve and one thing that would be to read less off of my note cards. I noticed right away that I was staring way too much to my notes rather than my audience. There were times where I caught myself and glanced up but I think I really need to not rely on my notes as much. I think I would rate my eye contact a 5 out of 10. Another thing I would like to improve is my delivery. I want to catch my audience’s attention better in the beginning. For that I have would have to put myself in their shoes and relate to that. Something that was different from my previous speech was my personal example and how I related my topic to my personal life. Like I said, this speech was easier than the first one because of how the topic really revolves around my life.
So on a scale from A to F, I think I deserve a B because this speech was an informative speech and I believe I definitely informed my audience about fraternities. I used personal example to help my audience relate it as well. Being the same age as my audience, really helped them relate to my topic and therefore I believe the audience really understood my topic. I didn’t really mention and source citations in my speech. I should have and I really don’t know why I didn’t.
In this speech, I think that I did fairly better than my previous one because of the preparation and the knowledge of my speech. I practiced and practiced my speech over and over again. This topic was a fun topic to give a speech on because I can really relate my college life to it and I really enjoyed informing other students about fraternities.

Hello!
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear that you think you did a lot better on this speech than you did on your first one! :) I think an effective way for you to learn your speech without your note cards would be to practice your speech with your note cards and a few times without them as well. This worked for me during my senior year in high school. I had to give a speech and practicing with and then without my note cards helped me learn my speech and I ended up not needing them when it came time for my presentation.
It sounds like you know what you need to improve on for your final speech and I am looking forward to seeing your improvements! :)
I think a lot of people, after their speech, feel like they should have said or done something different. But I think that's the point of why we have self evaluations for our next speech to be better. I was a lot more confident the second time around as well. I also have the same problem as you, I rush through my speech, I didn't fulfill the time limit because i start to speak really fast and sometimes stumble on what I really ment to say. I agree that it helps to do a speech that you find interesting and you know a lot about, its easier and the audience notices your confidence.
