so reading the little description on flickr, i dont really agree with it because i dont think calling someone a different name when they really are one, sexist. for example, when a female is a grown woman and you call them a girl, they should not get offensive because its just a name, a title and not what they are. for example, in high school, i told a girl that she was a girl and stated that she was a woman and got really mad at me. calling me sexist and all that. in the book, it talks about how people take words personally. so in a speech, i guess what you say can really affect someone and how they perceive ideas.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the discussions on Flickr I would have to agree with you in that I don't think that using terms like "boy" and "girl" are sexist. I feel like the whole thing is blown way out of proportion. Terms like "boy" and "girl" are not offensive and just another way to address a male or female. I think it's really interesting that you actually had an experience where someone got offended by saying they were a girl. I know it doesn't offend me but as the book states it can really be taken personally by some people and we should always be careful when using those words in a speech and in life as well for that matter.
